Eligibility for Services

How do you know if you are eligible for services?

The Bellevue University Accommodations Resource Center provides reasonable accommodations for qualified students who disclose a mental or physical condition that currently causes substantial limitations to their functioning in the living or learning environment.

To be eligible for services and reasonable accommodations, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Disclose your status as an individual with a disability to the Accommodations Center.
  • Otherwise meet all relevant University requirements and standards.
  • Provide sufficient evidence of a disability and its substantial limitations to functioning in University programs, activities, and housing.

We consider the following in determining the need for accommodations:

  • Your description of need, current experiences, and prior history of needing accommodations in similar circumstances.
  • Current limitations resulting from the condition that have a substantial effect on functioning in the learning or living environment. A logical link between the functional limitation and the requested accommodation must be clear.
  • Essential course and program requirements and any applicable safety concerns.

Please note that a prior history of accommodation does not mean that similar accommodations will automatically be provided at Bellevue University.

Appeals/Grievances

We encourage any person who believes that they have been subjected to discrimination to file a grievance in order to resolve any disputes. Any student who asked for an accommodation that the Accommodations Center has determined not to be reasonable or appropriate can file a grievance to appeal the decision. The filing of a grievance will not subject anyone to any form of adverse action, reprimand, retaliation or otherwise negative treatment by Bellevue University. A grievance may be filed through the "Student Experience Feedback and Complaints" form.
