types of scholarships

Institutional scholarships and grants

These funds are awarded by the University primarily through the Admissions area or Athletic Department. Need-based and merit-based scholarships are selected by scholarship committees through the Scholarships and Grants Program Office.

Phi Theta Kappa grant (PTK)

Phi Theta Kappa awards are a one-time, non-renewable $500 grant to high-achieving undergraduate transfer students who have earned the Phi Theta Kappa distinction at their community college. To be eligible, students must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
  • Have earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.
  • Transfer directly to Bellevue University after completing the associate degree in which the Phi Theta Kappa honor was earned. Students may enroll within one academic term of graduation and still be considered a direct transfer (for example, a spring graduate beginning at Bellevue University in the fall term).

Verifiable documentation of Phi Theta Kappa membership and degree completion is required to receive the award. Please contact your Enrollment Counselor for more information.

Annual and endowed scholarships

Annual and endowed scholarships are funded by donations from organizations or individuals and are awarded based upon criteria set up by the donor. These need-based scholarships are selected periodically by scholarship committees through the Scholarships and Grant Program Office.

Renewable scholarships

Renewable scholarships are select scholarships that can be earned by undergraduate students year-over-year for 4-5 years or until you earn a bachelor’s degree, if certain conditions are met.

Outside scholarships

All scholarships that do not fall into the previous categories are referred to as outside scholarships. Whatever their source, they are processed through the Financial Aid Office to ensure that an over-award situation does not occur with Title IV federal funds and to ensure that the student’s account is properly credited with the funds received. Please report all outside financial aid awarded to finaid@bellevue.edu.

How to Find Additional Scholarships Outside of the College/University

Emergency grants

Bellevue University recognizes that students may face unexpected emergencies that impact their finances. Student Emergency Grants, typically between $500 and $1,000, are designed to help you overcome obstacles such as unanticipated health or family situations, temporary job loss, auto repairs and more. The ultimate goal is to keep you enrolled at Bellevue University and advancing toward graduation.

Please review the Frequently Asked Questions and reach out to your Student Coach to further discuss your eligibility to apply for an emergency grant.
