Requirements (9 credit hours)
This course establishes the foundational knowledge and skills required to launch and manage a counseling private practice. Learners will identify and evaluate business structure options, outline financial and administrative systems, and apply legal and ethical standards to practice design. Key topics include risk management, compliance with professional codes, and HIPAA considerations. Through guided instruction and applied projects, participants will create a draft business plan and develop at least three core policies and procedures (e.g., intake, billing, documentation) that support ethical and sustainable care.
This course provides applied training in creating and launching a counseling private practice, integrating business and clinical competencies for long-term success. Learners will design operational infrastructure, develop a comprehensive business plan, and apply ethical frameworks to administrative and clinical decision-making. Key topics include HIPAA compliance, data security protocols, and professional codes of ethics. Prerequisite: MCC 554
This course focuses on strategies to expand, strengthen, and maintain a successful counseling private practice over time. Learners will analyze methods for building a professional culture, managing collaborative teams, and overcoming barriers to long-term success. Emphasis is placed on applying evidence-based marketing techniques and operational tools to ensure business stability and client retention. Prerequisite: MCC 554
