Lou Soukup Adjunct Faculty Award
Purpose:
The Lou Soukup Adjunct Faculty Awards support Bellevue University in recognizing the highest-quality, most-engaged adjunct faculty. These annual awards were established by Lou Soukup who taught business management classes for many years as an adjunct professor at Bellevue University. The awards, of $2,500 each, will recognize one undergraduate-level and one graduate-level adjunct faculty member.
Criteria:
The Lou Soukup Adjunct Faculty Award recognizes the enormous contributions of adjunct faculty at Bellevue University. Their presence has enabled the University to offer “real world” instruction in a wide-range of courses with small class sizes and personalized instruction. The award recognizes excellent teaching, which may include such attributes as:
- Maintains high standards for academic achievement
- Possesses superior knowledge of the subject matter
- Displays sincerity and enthusiasm in teaching
- Relates classroom learning to real life situations
- Is recognized for fairness and integrity
- Is well organized and makes clear presentations
- Motivates students to excel
- Prepares students academically in a first rate manner
- Respects students opinions
- Shows interest and is helpful in counseling and advising
- Participates in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills
Selection Procedure:
Nominations for the Lou Soukup Adjunct Faculty Award must be submitted through the Dean of the faculty member’s college to the Chief Academic Officer and to the President. The final selection will be made by the President.
Nominee Materials Required:
- Curriculum Vita
- Submit a statement of why teaching at Bellevue University is important
- One letter of recommendation from a faculty member from the nominee’s department
- Student evaluations from the most recent previous term class
- Nominations must be received by May 30, 2025
Recognition:
The selection of the recipient will be provided in an annual report which includes an update on activities associated with the award. The recipient will also be announced during Bellevue University’s Board of Directors Meeting and All Campus meeting, as well as by press release. Recipients will receive a plaque stating “(Name), (Year) Lou Soukup Award for Excellence in Teaching, Bellevue University.”
