Walk-ins

Walk-ins are welcome at the on-campus Writing Center when consultants have open availability. Walk-in support is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and only when a consultant is already scheduled to work on campus.

If the schedule is full, our staff can help you book the next available appointment. To check availability before you arrive, email writing@bellevue.edu or call 402-557-5449.

Joining Your Zoom Session:

  • Zoom sessions require a microphone on your device and, preferably, access to a video/web cam on your device.

Schedule an online review

If you would like a consultant at the Writing Center to review your written work and send feedback to you, you may request an online review. It is our goal to help you become a better writer, so instead of merely proofreading your work, our writing consultants will meet you where you are, providing feedback to help you identify patterns and revise your writing and formatting.

How to Schedule an Online Review:

You will not need to be present during the appointment time. An appointment reserved on the schedule simply ensures that we will review your work that day. We ask that you upload your document(s) prior to your appointment time (Central Time Zone) in order to avoid being marked as missing your appointment.

  • In BRUIN Connect, open “Academic Support Appointments” and select Writing Center or Peer Tutoring.
  • Choose Writing Support from the dropdown.
  • Select an open (white) time slot. Blue and dark blue blocks are unavailable.
  • Choose ONLINE REVIEW as your meeting type and click “Create Appointment.”
  • Upload your file(s) before your appointment time (CT).
    • Document Length Note:
    • Seven to 10 pages can be reviewed in 30 minutes.
    • Fifteen to 18 pages can be reviewed in a one-hour session.
    • Longer documents require more than one hour.
  • You can attach a file for the consultant when you make the appointment, or upload it later but before you appointment.
    • To attach the file when you are making the appointment, simply attach your files near the end of the appointment reservation form before you click on “Create Appointment.”
    • To attach the file sometime after you’ve reserved an appointment, return to the schedule and click on your reserved time. In the window that pops up, scroll to the bottom and click on “Edit Appointment.” In the new box that refreshes, scroll down to the bottom again and attach your file(s). Then, in the bottom left corner, click on “Save Changes.”
  • After reviewing your work, your consultant will upload an updated file to your appointment. Log back in later that day to retrieve your feedback.

Attach a file

For online Writing Center appointments or writing review

Attach your writing assignment file to your online writing review reservation or online interactive appointment before your scheduled time:

  • Log back into the Writing Center and find your appointment time (in orange).
  • Select your appointment by clicking on it, which opens up a pop-up window with a form and a link to Attach a File.
  • Browse your computer and select your document, up to 1 MB in size in MS Word (.doc or .docx) or Rich Text format (.rtf). If you need to share a PowerPoint or a large file, please send it to our email at writing@bellevue.edu.
  • Click on Save Changes.

Option 2 for attaching a file:

Log back into the Writing Center and click on the File Folder icon symbol in the upper left corner of the screen. Follow instructions in the pop-up window to select your scheduled time, “Browse”, and “Upload File”.

When to upload file:

Files must be uploaded/received before your scheduled appointment time (Central Time Zone), in order to be reviewed, or else your appointment will be cancelled.

Waiting list

A waiting list exists for students who are unable to make an appointment in WCONLINE due to busy times of the semester. You can be notified via email or text that an appointment time slot has become available.

Please follow these steps to be placed on the waiting list:

Adding your name to the waiting list

  1. The words Waiting List: [date] are present beneath every available day in the WCONLINE appointment system of the Writing Center – F2F, Writing Center – SYN & Telephone, and Writing Review – Online schedules. Click whichever day you want to be notified of cancellations.
  2. Add your name to the Waiting List, selecting whichever limits to a specific consultant or time that you wish to employ.
  3. Select “Add to Waiting List,” and then you are added to the list.
  4. When an appointment becomes available, you will be notified by email or text.
  5. You will then need to login and make an appointment in the available slot.

Notifications by text
When first registering, if you selected the option to enable text messaging you should automatically receive notifications of openings. If not, you can do so by updating your profile.

To update your profile look for your name and hover over it in WCONLINE, “Welcome, [Name].” The option to “Update your Profile” should appear. Click on the option and update your information at the bottom of the box. Then, when you join the waiting list on the schedule, you will automatically be notified of openings by text instead of by email.

Waiting room

The Waiting Room is available when the Writing Center is fully booked at peak times of the term. It is also available for students who walk into the Writing Center in person. Students who are walk-ins in person need to check themselves into the Waiting Room to be assisted by a consultant during walk-in hours. Remote students can join the Waiting Room to be assisted when a student misses a scheduled appointment. Students who wish to be assisted should check themselves into the Waiting Room when a consultant is present on the WCONLINE schedule. The student should choose to stay checked into the WCONLINE appointment system until contacted by the consultant via phone or email in the event of available time or students’ missing appointments. Once contacted, the consultant will inform the student of any next steps that need to occur. However, there is no guarantee that students in the Waiting Room will be assisted when the schedule is full, and all students are attending their appointments.

To clock in to the Waiting Room:

  • Click on the green arrow under your name.
  • Complete the form to tell us a bit more about what you are working on.
  • Select ‘clock in’ after you have entered a brief description of what you need assistance with in the ‘What are you working on today?’ dialogue box.
  • Your name will then appear in the Waiting Room.
  • After checking in, wait until someone contacts you. Remember that it is dependent on the absence of other students during a scheduled appointment.
