Bellevue University at Center of Cybersecurity Month Activities

National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Staying safe online, whether at home or at work, will be the focus of several free, local events in October — National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Bellevue University and Ron Woerner, the Director of the University's Cybersecurity degree programs, will host STOP.THINK.CLICK — Nebraska on Tuesday, October 2. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Symposium Room of the John H. Muller Administrative Services Building on the main Bellevue University campus.

In addition, Woerner will be hosting a webinar, R U $ECUR3, Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. CST. The webinar will offer participants tips and tricks to help them stay secure online. Bellevue University students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public, are invited to attend both the STOP.THINK.CLICK — Nebraska event and the webinar.

"These events will bring together the security community," Woerner said. "Attendees will get information about what steps to take and who to contact if they run into a cybersecurity issue. A lot of the rules for online protection were set a long time ago. We've been saying the same thing for years and years, but still a lot of the basic blocking and tackling is not happening."

The cybersecurity awareness campaign will kickoff at the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month Launch and Business Security Summit on Monday, October 1. The event will be held at the Scott Conference Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Woerner will serve as the moderator for the Ask the Expert panel discussion from 4 to 5 p.m., wrapping up the summit.
