Garlock to Share Wisdom at COB Speaker Event

Leadership, Goal Setting to be addressed in Q&A Session

John “Buzz” Garlock, a Senior Vice President with RBC Wealth Management in Omaha, will be the featured speaker for The College of Business January Speaker series. The event will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from 12:30-1:130 p.m. in the John B. Muller ASB Garden Level Symposium Room.

John Garlock

Garlock, a 1976 graduate of then-Bellevue College and the school’s Athlete of the Year, will speak on Leadership, Stewardship and How to Guide Your Personal Ship.

“We’re going to do it in a sit-down, Q & A fashion,” Garlock explained. “I’ll be speaking about events that have influenced my life and people that have been important to me. I’ll share some ideas about what I think it takes to be a good leader.”

Garlock has over 20 years of management experience and has been named one of the country’s top financial advisors in both Money and Barron’s. Garlock has also been recognized for his many volunteer activities including in 2006 President Bush’s Presidential Call to Volunteer Award primarily for his work at Boys Town. At Boys Town, Garlock coaches basketball, sponsors the Stock Picking Contest for junior high and high school students, and is part of the Boys Town reading mentoring program. He is also the Treasurer of the NorthStar Foundation; working with Omaha inner city boys grades 3-8, as well as being active in his church.

Garlock credits former Bellevue University Athletic Director Jerry Mosser with helping him stay on the right path. He hopes to share some of that wisdom during his talk.

“If there’s one goal I would have, it’s to give each student one gem that they can use for the rest of their life,” Garlock said. “One student may gravitate toward one idea, while another may go toward another.”
