Look to STARS for scholarship dollars
Program makes scholarship application process simpler
Think you need the stars to align in order to finance your education?
Bellevue University is helping to make that happen with its Scholarship Tracking and Review System (STARS). The program is designed to give students the opportunity to apply for donor-funded and institutional scholarships at Bellevue University all in one place.
An application for admission to Bellevue University is required for consideration for any of the scholarships.
STARS was launched on November 10, 2011 to help consolidate the application process for the multitude of scholarships available through the University. Through the STARS program, students will be able to submit the required information to be considered for different scholarships, stay informed about their application through the consideration process and learn if they have been selected to receive an award.
The cumbersome process that preceded STARS often left students discouraged and scholarship money unclaimed.
"In the past, Bellevue University used to have all of our donor-funded scholarships listed on hard copy. Students literally had to apply for each one," explained Johnna Martinez, Scholarship and Grant Manager. "We had this money and no one to give it to."
STARS has streamlined that process.
"It's a lot less work than then having to fill out the same information over and over again," Martinez said. "It's really comprehensive not only for the student, but also for administrators."
Currently all of Bellevue University's donor-funded scholarships are included in the STARS program along with many of the institutional scholarships. Martinez hopes to expand the program to include all of the institutional scholarships, including athletics and grants. Scholarships offered from entities outside the institution may be added in the future as well.
