My friends kept saying, “You can do it.” And they were right!

Okay Linda, you can do this. It’s only 15 months. The guy up the street...he got a raise and a promotion and it was just because he got his college degree.”

Linda is Linda Haskell, a 2005 Bellevue University graduate with a BS in Marketing Management who told her story to the Board of Trustees the evening before commencement.

“Those are the words ringing in my ears for the past 20 years from my dear friend. She kept pushing me and pushing me until I couldn’t shut her up. Finally she said just go find out about the program and I did, just to get her off my back.”

Is any of this sounding familiar to you? Linda said she couldn’t imagine being able to do this. But then she didn’t know about Bellevue University’s accelerated degree completion program that allowed her to complete her degree in 15 months and receive credit for college classes she had taken years ago.

“All I was doing was going to get information. I wasn’t going to sign up that day…but then I met the staff at Bellevue University. They weren’t pushy. They made the process so easy that the next thing I knew, I was in the program. I’m so glad they helped me take that next step toward earning my degree.”

It wasn’t always easy for Linda. But with a little urging from her friends and a belief in herself, she succeeded. She had one other reason for persevering.

“I’m a single mom with two teenage daughters. I didn’t realize the impact my studying would have on them. Their grades went up because I was in school. I wish I had done this a long time ago, if only for that reason.”
