Technology allows the Master of Science in Clinical Counseling to reach a national student base
Bellevue University has been offering students in the Bellevue/Greater Omaha area respected, career-relevant degrees for over 40 years. Nearly 15 years ago, the University embarked on a journey to make many of the programs available to an online audience. One of the more recent additions to our online portfolio is the increasingly popular Master of Science in Clinical Counseling degree program.
The program includes 60 rigorous credit hours, and extensive online role-playing via Adobe Connect and webcams plus. A 900-hour clinical counseling internship is also required. Upon graduation, the program provides students the opportunity to earn their mental health practitioner license.
"The ability to have face-to-face interaction over the Internet has enabled us to provide our online students the same program components they would get in a live classroom setting," said Carole Patrick, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. "With the use of virtual meeting software the students are able to pick up voice inflections and body language cues – micro skills that are important components of the counseling program."
"The ability to role play and complete other program requirements online saves students time and money required to travel and participate on a residential campus, something other colleges and universities require," Dr. Patrick said. "This technology truly puts our program on the cutting edge."
While the online program has been successful in reaching throughout the nation, the University is pleased to also offer this program in the traditional classroom setting for students who prefer that.
