Wilson Gallery hosts trio
The Joyce Wilson Art Gallery located in the Humanities building will feature the works of three artists for the month of January. Amy Cerra, Laurie Mason, and Dalhia Cavazos will display their work in a collaborative show featuring ceramics, fused glass, beads, painting, and fiber arts. This eclectic show will include an emphasis on color and texture through the exploration of the artists' personal experiences of creating. All three artists value the exploration of materials and process, discovering possibilities and connections through the acts of experimentation and art-making.
About each artist:
Amy Cerra is a graduate of Hastings College and is currently an art teacher at Benson High School in Omaha, NE. Amy explores her curiosity and sense of play through ceramics and painting. Her current work features two series: Red Shelters and Cupcakes. Through her travel experiences, Amy has found a new perspective on shelter and home. Additionally, she has recognized the value of small personal acts like the sharing of a baked good.
Laurie Mason is a graduate of Bellevue University and worked for years as a school teacher before becoming a social worker for the state government. She is now a full-time artist. Today, she has a special passion for fused glass, lampwork beads, and other fire-related art. She incorporates beads into a lot of her work and considers her art-making a form of prayer. Recently, she has created over 1,000 computer-generated mandalas (mandala is an ancient word meaning circle). Through her art, she attempts to nurture and encourage a sense of unity among all peoples.
Dalhia Cavazos is a graduate of Kansas University and is an educator and professional graphic designer residing in Omaha, NE. Using different mediums to create her art, she works without preconceived ideas of how the piece will look when it is finished. She considers herself a visual communicator. Regardless of materials, the theme of this artist's work is always her passion for color and texture. Painting and fiber art allow her to explore and share her discoveries about the possibilities of color and texture.
A reception will be held in the gallery on Tuesday, January 10 from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and all are welcome to attend.
