Government Security News Recognizes Bellevue University
University Collects Homeland Security Award for Third Time
Bellevue University's Security Management Program received top honors in Government Security News (GSN) 4th Annual Homeland Security Awards in the "Best Training/Higher Education" category.
Finalists and winners in 42 categories were selected by a panel of objective and independent judges, according to GSN's editor-in-chief, Jacob Goodwin, who oversaw the evaluation process. Winners were announced on November 29, 2012 at an event GSN hosted at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
"We received an outstanding group of entries and have handed winners' plaques to an exceptional group of companies and government agencies," said Goodwin. The award recognizes the University's bachelor's and master's degrees in Security Management. This is the third time in four years that Bellevue University has received the award and it was the only academic institution of the honorees.
"What really sets Bellevue University apart is its interactive approach to engaging students in trends and changes within the industry," said Greg Allen, Security Management program director. "Each fall the University conducts a seminar with the 9/11 Commission, giving students access to the latest in homeland security. This year alone, the program has organized three webinars with Security Magazine, bringing together the brightest minds in the industry. Students are given opportunities to present at national conventions, prepare tabletop exercises, and conduct readiness assessments for corporations including Fortune 500 businesses. The majority of these events are initiated by businesses who do not have the time or resources to hold trainings or implement needed measures. They turn to Bellevue University because of its stellar reputation and high quality students."
