University Professor wins Prestigious Award
Dr. Carolyn M. Youssef, Associate Professor of Management in Bellevue University's College of Business, was recently awarded the prestigious Emerald Citation of Excellence. Dr. Youssef's article "Emerging positive organizational behavior" (Journal of Management, 2007) was chosen as one of the top 50 articles from the top 300 management publications worldwide (about 15,000 articles added annually, 280,000 articles to-date) that have had proven impact since their publication date.
Dr. Youssef has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, and helped various organizations develop positivity in their managers and employees. She is the co-author of "Psychological Capital: Developing the Human Competitive Edge" [Oxford University Press, 2007], and serves on the editorial board for The Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies and the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management.
Keeping in line with the University's Real Learning for Real Life message, her students benefit from her education as well as her global work experience. Dr. Youssef headed training and human resource development at the Egyptian subsidiary of Thomas Cook, a tourism and financial services multinational with operations in more than 15 countries. She has held various teaching, executive training, and research positions at the American University in Cairo, USAID, Unilever, Shell, and the Natural Resources Institute.
She joined Bellevue University as an Assistant Professor in 2004 after earning a Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Today in addition to her role as a faculty member, she is also a Research Associate of Bellevue University's Human Capital Lab. Her research focus is on positivity in the workplace.
Only a few months ago, Dr. Youssef received the John R. Maenner Professorship Award. Nomination for this award came from her PhD students, who wrote: "Dr. Youssef taught two of the first four classes in this program. In every classroom and every lesson she teaches, you see the pride and professionalism she carries with her." "Dr. Youssef mentors students to excel beyond what is or may be considered to be good enough. This mentorship is more than just her job, she has a passion for knowledge and a passion to help others find it. If a student wants to be challenged, she will help them. She expects excellence and she receives it from her students and peers."
