Bellevue University Alum Finds Success, Reaches Back to University for Help with Mentors

With his associate’s degree completed, Daniel Boyd knew the next 3 semesters at Bellevue University would be life-changing and set in motion events that would help him reach the goals he set for himself.

Here’s Daniel’s story:

When it came time to earn a bachelor's degree, the choice of Bellevue University seemed natural for many reasons. The University's innovative scheduling allowed him to work full time while attending classes and he received credit for the classes taken while earning his associate's degree. On a personal level, Boyd had been previously introduced to Bellevue University by his mother who also earned her degree here, and the campus was close to home so he could be near friends and family.

Boyd credits the advisors who worked with him to make the most of his transfer credits. They created a flexible schedule to ensure all his requirements were met and he could still graduate in just over a year. He described earning his bachelor’s degree at Bellevue University as a seamless transition from his previous school, where he earned the associate’s degree. Boyd graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports Management.

While his education was sports focused, including an internship with the NAIA, Boyd said he took much more with him. The communication skills he learned at Bellevue University are used frequently as he works with kids and reaches out to the community on behalf of his current employer. He described the curriculum as up to date and hands-on. "I was ready to jump out in the world the day I left Bellevue University," he said.

Today, Boyd is proud of the work he does with All Our Kids, a local mentoring program in the Omaha area. His current position brought him back to Bellevue University. When the group was looking for bi-lingual mentors to partner with the kids, he reached back to the University and connected with Jose Lemus. Lemus introduced Boyd to students in the University's Multicultural Club. That meeting resulted in Bellevue University students serving the community, and Boyd keeping his connection with the school.

While he is not sure where life will take him, Boyd is proud to talk about his Bellevue University experience. When deciding on how to further his education, "I don’t think of any other place than Bellevue University for my masters" he states confidently.
