NEW MASTER'S DEGREE DEVELOPS LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Theory and Practicality Converge in Leadership and Coaching Degree
Bellevue University's new Master of Science in Leadership and Coaching (MLC) degree is designed to help you identify and develop your own leadership style. In addition, you will be exposed to executive coaching theories and techniques, so you can assist others striving to reach their full potential.
"We provide very leading edge content, contemporary research and theories in leadership," said Dr. Mike Freel, Program Director for the MLC. "We spend an equal amount of time on how that information is focused from a pragmatic standpoint. How is it applied?"
In addition to earning your master's degree, you will also earn an executive coaching certificate. The coaching portion of the degree will consist of 12 credit hours including a coaching "internship." This will consist of a once-a-week live session in which you will interact with fellow students utilizing a webcam and Abode Connect software.
"Any definition of leadership should include something about helping employees get better at what they do," Freel said. "Coaching is one of the best ways to do that. That's why we've included it in the program. A big part of effective leadership is related to the interactions the leader has with employees."
After completing 27 hours of the program, you will be eligible to take MLC 680 Applied Leadership Project, which will consist of a thesis paper or applied project.
"Students will be conducting a project assessing, implementing or evaluating leadership in a particular setting," Freel explained. "It depends on the student's interest."
