One Book, One BU brings University Employees Together
April 29, 2009
One Book, One BU is again preparing to bring together minds from across the University to discuss their thoughts on a novel. At each forum, participants meet over refreshments, get to know each other, and discuss and the work at hand. They banter over ideas, listen to unexpected insights, and learn from each other as well as great authors. The first of three selections for the 2009/2010 academic year is “The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Diaz.
What is One Book, One BU?
Years ago, the faculty formed a book forum, which was revived approximately five years ago as a way to connect professors from the various colleges. As the University improved its technology and its auditorium, the Faculty Film Forum was added. As these forums continued to connect faculty and as the University began to grow at a substantial rate, forum organizers decided to include all employees. “We were noticing many unfamiliar faces at various meetings and events, and we felt that a community building effort was appropriate to help us connect with each other and strengthen our common bonds,” said Pat Artz, Associate Professor, College of Arts and Sciences.
