Dobransky named 2010 Technology College Educator of the Year
Mary Dobransky, the Dean of the College of Information Technology, has been named the 2010 Technology College Educator of the Year by the AIM Institute. The award is presented annually to one IT college educator who has risen to the top of the profession.
"It is an honor to have been selected as the recipient of the Technology College Educator of the Year Award," said Dobransky. "I am thankful for the recognition and humbled by the AIM Institute’s choice. I love education and I am grateful to work in such a rewarding field. I want to share the award with my students and colleagues because education is truly a shared experience."
Her many accomplishments here at Bellevue University and her commitment to improving the student experience were cited among the reasons for Dobransky’s winning the award. She pioneered e-tutoring at Bellevue University, which provides critical learning services to students who cannot easily or conveniently come to campus. Online tutoring significantly increases a student’s chances to succeed in classes and stay in college despite road bumps. In addition, Dobransky developed an online student success course (OSSP) to orient students to various resources at Bellevue University. Over 500 students have completed the OSSP since it was launched in the spring of 2009.
Dobransky has brought her passion for student success to her relatively new role as Dean of the College of Information Technology. "The College of Information Technology strives to provide the best possible Information Technology education for our students. Our team is unified in its commitment to student learning and dedicated to providing a high-quality curriculum," Dobransky said. "Information Technology is a rapidly changing field, and I am proud to be part of a College that is so forward thinking in their approach to Information Technology education."
Dobransky was named Dean of the College of Information Technology in April 2009 after serving three months as Interim Dean. Prior to that, she was Director of the Learning Assessment Center. She has nearly two decades of experience teaching IT courses and leading the Computer/Telecommunications academic programs.
