Bellevue University Professor utilizes technology to improve the learning experience for all students
When Dr. David Levy started as an adjunct faculty member at Bellevue University 15 years ago, online learning was just beginning. This new technology intrigued him, and since becoming a full time faculty member nine years ago, he has received recognition for his leadership and achievements.
Dr. Levy won the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) Gold Award for Excellence in Online Teaching in 2005. He has also won Bellevue University's John R. Maenner Faculty Award in 2005, the Bellevue University Award for Excellence in Online Course Design in 2004, and Bellevue University's Award for Outstanding Online Professor in 2002.
Bellevue University utilizes the Blackboard system for online learning to deliver course content and host discussion boards for the classes. Nearly 1/3 of Dr. Levy’s students reside outside the University’s local metropolitan area, including international students- creating a global classroom experience. Dr. Levy further enhances the learning experience by adding webinars and staying current with technology which includes the use of a whiteboard.
One reason he makes the online webinars available to the in-class students is so they can write down key points, then watch the webinars and further absorb the information. Dr. Levy also brings real world experience to the classroom from a previous career at Union Pacific.
Dr. Levy’s contributions are not limited to the online classroom. He was instrumental in getting the College of Business Speaker Series started, and worked to enable Bellevue University to be able to offer an academic waiver for the CTL certification from the American Society of Transportation and Logistics (AST&L) for MBA students who take the Supply Chain Management Concentration and meet the listed criteria.
Whether in the online environment or a traditional classroom, Dr. Levy works hard to connect with his students. "The reward for answering a question in my classroom is a second question – why?" Levy commented. "It is about them learning, not me teaching," he continued.
