Psychology Degree - Bachelor of Arts
Psychology is one of the most flexible liberal arts degrees. Professionals in the field of psychology work to arrive at potential solutions to problems faced by people or organizations.
The Bellevue University Bachelor of Arts in Psychology focuses on psychology as a science. You will develop skills to become an effective communicator and presenter, because we place a strong emphasis on writing and oral presentation. In addition, critical thinking, problem solving, research, and statistical analysis skills will help you to better understand and explain the “why” of human behavior. You will develop the ability to apply research and to evaluate psychological concepts and applications.
All of these skills translate well into career paths that require knowledge of human behavior such as human and social services, human resources, management, and marketing. The curriculum in class and online, follows the guidelines for an undergraduate major presented by the American Psychological Association.
Integrating hands-on, applied learning with theory, all Bellevue University degrees are designed to deliver a transformative student learning experience that is flexible to accommodate your personal and work life.
You will write research proposals and conduct your own empirical or scholarly research as a means to demonstrate good evidence-based practice skills, and in preparation for future graduate study. You also may choose an internship as a way to learn more about applications of psychology in human and social service agencies or other settings. If you intend to pursue clinical counseling, social work, psychological research, or other professional careers, you will be prepared to pursue graduate school, including the Master of Science in Clinical Counseling.
At successful completion of the Bellevue University Bachelor of Arts in Psychology you be able to do the following:
- Apply the principles of scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills in psychology
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of psychological principles, theories, and data across situations
- Communicate effectively about psychology through written, oral, and interpersonal means
- Apply psychological principles and skill sets in preparing for future career paths or graduate/professional school
What’s difference between the B.A. and the B.S. in Psychology?
- The B.S. requires College Algebra and a lab science course (Biology or Chemistry preferred, but other lab sciences accepted)
- The B.A. requires either a culture course or Spanish; AND, either Nutrition or Human Genetics
Additional info: If you are interested in attending a research-intensive graduate program, you should take additional math and science courses, as well as PY 450 Psychology Research.
Additional language or communications courses are highly recommended if you have plans to become a counselor or therapist.
