Computer Proficiency Testing
The Computer Proficiency Tests have been institutionally developed using Cengage Learning Technology Systems. These tests have been designed to assess knowledge of the Microsoft 2010 Office Suite applications. These twelve (12) tests fulfill lower level elective requirements and match the proficiency needed to pass a Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced level college course. The tests are computer based, and results are immediately available.
- Check with your academic advisor prior to taking any exams to earn college level credit to ensure the test meets your degree requirements.
- Each test is worth one (1) credit, and is not transferable to other institutions.
- Only correct answers are scored; guessing is encouraged.
- The tests are pass/fail only and do not affect your GPA.
- Credits earned do not count toward the 60 credits of in-residence classes required to be eligible for academic honors.
- If you are outside the metro area, you must take the test in a proctored environment and a proctor fee may apply.
- Submit your To Schedule a Test form through BRUIN indicating your requested test date.

Students outside of the Greater Omaha Metro area:
As a distant student, you are required to nominate a proctor to supervise the test session. We recommend you use ProctorU. ProctorU is a web-based proctoring service you may use to take a computer proficiency test at home morning, noon or night. It is easy to use and a convenient alternative to going in person to a proctor. You must have a webcam, a microphone, and a high speed internet connection to use this service. The fee is $25 for a 2-hour testing session. You create a free account on this webpage. There you can watch a video to learn how online proctoring works and check your computer for the required hardware and software. If you have selected to use ProctorU, please email proctor@bellevue.edu to let us know of your choice. You will be notified when the test will be available for you to schedule and take an exam through ProctorU.
If this option does not work for you; you will need to find a local college or university test center to proctor your test. We recommend you review the proctor options available through the Consortium of College Testing Centers. Bellevue University adheres to their standards and requires the same of nominated test proctors.
