Mike Evans - Head Baseball Coach
After a one year stint as Head Baseball Coach at McAlester High School in Oklahoma, Evans entered the collegiate coaching ranks as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Coach Evans' success at Bellevue University is unmatched; a record of 786 wins, 379 losses and one tie for a winning percentage of .675 making Coach Evans the most successful coach in Bruin baseball history. Evans has led his team to an unprecedented 13 district or sub-region championships, including the 1995 NAIA National Championship. Since the beginning of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1994 the Bruins also have won nine MCAC Regular Season and eight Championships Titles, nine NAIA Region Championships and seven Super Regional Tournaments.
Evans' has been recognized for his success with numerous coaching awards including the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1995 and the Region Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1998. Coach Evans also is a professor in the Physical Education program at Bellevue University.
The Bruins will begin their 2007 campaign ranked seventh in the NAIA Pre-Season Poll, returning 10 players from last year's 41-19 squad that made it to the Region IV and Super-Regional Championship games finishing 13th in the final NAIA poll. The Bellevue University Bruins have made 10 NAIA World Series appearances out of the past 12 years.
Mitch Schmidt - Assistant Baseball Coach
Coach Schmidt brings an extensive playing and coaching background to the Bruins Baseball Program. He has been involved in all aspects of coaching on and off the field during his past appointments. For the 2007 Bruins Baseball Team, Coach Schmidt's responsibilities will include: Outfielders, Hitters, Fundraising, Budget, Travel Coordination and Recruiting (NE, IA, KS, CO, SD, TX, UT, RI, CT, WY, MAN, SASK and ONT).
The Billings, Montana native graduated from Billings West High School in 1987. Mitch was a standout baseball athlete in the legendary Billings American Legion Baseball Program. In 1995 after concluding a playing career at the higher levels of college and professional baseball in North America Coach Schmidt made his first full time coaching stop in his hometown for the Montana State University-Billings Yellowjacket Club Program as Head Coach before moving on to Minot State University as an Assistant Coach and eventually taking over the reins as Head Coach while serving as an Assistant Coach for the Minot, ND American Legion Baseball Program. Upon the opening of the Head Coaching position for the Billings, MT American Legion Baseball Program, Coach Schmidt returned to Billings to take over the program he once played in while resuming the duties as the Head Coach for the Montana State University-Billings Yellowjacket Club Program.
In 2000 Coach Schmidt moved from Billings to Fremont, NE to take the Assistant Coach position at Midland Lutheran College before moving on in 2001 to Valley High School, in Valley, NE as the Head Coach while serving as the Head Coach for the CNBL Fremont National Bank SP Baseball Team. In 2004 Coach Schmidt moved back to the College Coaching ranks when he took on the responsibilities as an Assistant Coach at Dana College for the past three seasons previous to becoming a part of the Bruins Baseball Family.
Mitch and his wife Jennifer (Janecek - Dodge, NE) became proud first time parents on October 22, 2006 to Lauren Ann Schmidt. In addition to his family and baseball duties at Bellevue University and the Nebraska Baseball Academy as Director, Coach Schmidt is in the process of completing a Maters degree in Pedagogy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, were he earned his Bachelor's degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Physical Education, Health Education and Art in 2002 with a 3.50 overall GPA.
Wade Pope - Assistant Baseball Coach
Wade's other accomplishments include working as a coach for three years with the Strike Zone Fall League (2004-present) in addition to working in the developmental summer leagues from Mississippi State University (2000-present).
Wade is a native of Carthage, Mississippi and currently resides in Omaha, Nebraska. While at Bellevue he is near completing his masters in P.E. Coaching from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Chris Emanuel - Assistant Baseball Coach
Chris graduated from Omaha Burke in 2001 where he earned 1st Team All-Nebraska Pitcher honors in 2000 and played two years at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. An injury at Butler ended his playing career, and at that time he decided to move back to his hometown where he is currently finishing his Exercise Science degree at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
