About the Gallery
The Dr. Joyce Norene Wilson Art Gallery is located in the atrium area of the Gilbert M. and Martha H. Hitchcock Humanities Center. The building itself is named for early Omaha philanthropists whose family foundation is a long-time supporter of Bellevue University.
Completed in 1981, the 21,000 square-foot building included the gallery space that was later renamed the Dr. Joyce Norene Wilson Art Gallery in September of 2010. The gallery was officially named to honor Dr. Wilson, a 42-year studio art and art history faculty member who joined then- Bellevue College as a professor of art in 1968. Dr. Wilson later built the Bellevue College/University Art Department and served the University in many capacities including Art Area Chair, Humanities Division Chair, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
During her career, Dr. Wilson also taught classes at Doane College, the College of St. Mary, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Joslyn Art Museum. She continues to be involved in the local arts community including membership in the Bellevue Artist Association and service on the Sarpy County Arts Council Board of Directors.
