1. What can a student do with the degree?


Successful completion of this program will provide the knowledge and skills to assume an administrative role in a healthcare organization. The MHA degree is recognized in the healthcare field as an important and, in some cases, necessary degree to assume a position of significant authority. These types of positions include: System Administrator, Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, President, Vice President, Executive Director, Division Director or Department Director. Students with this degree will be able to move to positions of higher authority and responsibility.


2. What can students expect to learn in the program?

The Healthcare Administration program is a skill-based learning experience designed to create capable healthcare leaders armed with the tools to navigate a constantly changing healthcare environment. Since the program is taught entirely online, students participate from all parts of the country adding a great amount of depth and diversity to the experience. Students are encouraged to share their work experiences with each other via Bellevue University's unique Cyber-Active Learning System. The courses emphasize practical approaches to "real world" situations. A variety of assignments and techniques are used to promote critical thinking and direct application of course material.

Some examples of these assignments and techniques include:


• Exploration of several key areas of healthcare leadership including: self-awareness, balance, honesty, competency, vision, inspiration, and credibility.
• Formal and informal presentations of case studies and healthcare simulations designed to expose students to the administrative decision making process.
• The Capstone Project provides the opportunity to demonstrate application of theory to a real life situation.
• The Internship/Practicum which allows students to apply knowledge and skills at the worksite under the supervision of an assigned mentor.

• How to communicate across networks within healthcare.
• How to recognize and analyze ethical issues in healthcare.
• How to understand basic legal issues as applied to healthcare.
• How to analyze and critique the organizational structure of healthcare institutions.
• How to conduct practical research projects in the healthcare setting.
• How to develop a budget and interpret a financial statement.
• How to develop a mission, a vision, and a strategic plan.
• How to understand and analyze various healthcare delivery systems.
• How to utilize information technology to gather and analyze healthcare data.
• How to recognize and deal with strategic human resource issues.
